Rayner Proudly Donates Lenses to Charity Project in Ghana

Posted on 22/12/2014

Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited announced today that it had recently made an IOL donation to Orbis.

Orbis is an international charity which transpired through an alliance forged between the medical and aviation industries. Founded in 1982, the charity was developed to provide surgical knowledge and skills to doctors in developing countries through their unique Flying Eye Hospital and hospital-based training programmes.

The Flying Eye Hospital is a one of a kind teaching facility, featuring an operating theatre, lecture theatre and pre and post-op spaces. In conjunction with hospital-based programmes, the aircraft has helped Orbis to conduct over 23.3 million treatments and train more than 325,000 medical professionals.

All Orbis initiatives contribute to improve the quality and accessibility of eye care to residents of the host countries, particularly in rural areas of impoverished urban communities.

The Rayner IOLs will be used to support a new project currently being undertaken in Ghana.

Jaymie Duke, Corporate Partnerships Officer for Orbis explained:
‘‘Orbis is extremely grateful for Rayner’s support. The IOLs which Rayner have generously donated will be used as part of our sustainable eye care service.’’
