Supporting Sight Savers at the London Eye

A trip to the London Eye for all the staff of Rayner Intraocular Lenses has helped Sight Savers charity to restore sight to more of the world’s poorest people.

Rayner purchased three London Eye pods from Sight Savers (British Airways’ official charity for the London Eye) to give all Rayner staff a day out and a flight on the Eye. All the trips, taken on three separate days, were blessed with good weather so spectacular views of London were enjoyed by everyone. It was a great way to celebrate the gift of sight and, at the same time, to continue Rayner’s support of Sight Savers in restoring that gift to people all over the world.

Sight Savers is a charity based in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, which has been working for over 50 years to change the lives of millions of people in the world’s poorest countries. In these countries the loss of sight often leads to social exclusion, poverty and early death. Sight Savers works alongside local organisations and governments to teach basic eye care skills and hygiene to adults and children. They help fund eye screening camps, operations, treatments, education and surgical training, as well as supporting rehabilitation programs.

The effects of their work can be seen in whole communities: they train local people in ways of stopping the spread of disease, and teach adults better eye care for their children. Where children are looking after blind adults, Sight Savers helps them to return to school. In cases of irreversible blindness, Sight Savers helps to improve the quality of life for those affected.

There are 45 million blind people in the world. In developing countries 80% of all blindness is preventable. Rayner is very pleased to be supporting Sight Savers’ work in these areas by donations of their highest quality implant lenses which are used to cure blindness caused by cataract.

Sight Savers Registered Charity Number is 207544.

The magnificent 135 metres high London Eye was constructed as part of the millennium celebrations and dominates the Westminster skyline.   Rayner staff enjoy their ride on the London Eye. Each capsule holds 25 people and there are 32 capsules giving a total passenger capacity of 1600 per hour.   A stunning view of the Houses of Parliament from the top of the Eye.
