Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited (Rayner) is pleased to note that Dr Uday Bhatt was chosen as the first recipient of the Ian Collins Rayner UKISCRS Fellowship.

About the Fellowship

This is the first year the award has been offered by the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS), as a funded fellowship for ophthalmologists in-training who plan to carry out a research project in cataract and intraocular lens surgery. Ian Collins, after whom the fellowship award is named, was the Managing Director and then Chairman of Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited. His link with UKISCRS was most apparent

with the company’s support for the Society’sRayner Medal Lecture. Sadly, Ian passed away in 2010 after a long illness.

Administered by UKISCRS and funded by Rayner, the Ian Collins Rayner UKISCRS Fellowship offers candidates a unique opportunity for pursuing research in ophthalmology. Donald John Munro, the company’s Chairman and Managing Director commented: “Supporting dedicated ophthalmologists in training is an investment for the future of ophthalmology. Ian Collins loved the innovation side of IOLs, and research and training was close to his heart.”

The fellowship was announced today at the Society’s Annual Meeting in Brighton. The award will provide funds for one year but can be renewed for up to three years to allow the fellow to complete a higher degree.
