Two representatives from Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited were invited to attend a reception at Buckingham Palace in recognition of the company’s winning the 2009 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. The prestigious award recognises sustained growth in international trade in overseas markets and growing commercial success. Rayner is the only British manufacturer of Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) – implants that replace the eye’s natural lens during cataract surgery.

Christopher Morgan, retiring Rayner Group Chairman and Rachel Yin, International Business Manager attended the evening reception for 2009 Queen’s Award winners and met Her Majesty The Queen and members of the Royal Family. The Queen expressed an interest in Rayner’s work and talked with Ms Yin and Mr Morgan about how intraocular lenses have changed for the better the lives of so many people around the world.

Christopher Morgan, Rayner Group Chairman said: “It is an honour to be invited to this special evening at Buckingham Palace and I am very proud to be a director of Rayner Intraocular Lenses. The company is dedicated to medical and scientific advancement using innovative applications to improve the quality of people’s lives by restoring sight, in the tradition of Sir Harold Ridley, the inventor of the world’s first IOL which the company manufactured some 60 years ago.”

Rachel Yin, International Business Manager said“The Queen’s Award recognises Rayner’s success over the last six years in exploring, penetrating and growing overseas markets. We trade across 70 countries worldwide, in many of which I have personally been involved. We frequently donate IOLs free of charge to charities in developing countries.”

Donald J. Munro, Chairman and Managing Director of Rayner said: “We’re in the business of helping people get back that most valuable of the human senses: sight. I’m confident that with this Award, more than ever, Rayner will continue to grow within the UK, and take our products to the international market. We are always looking for exciting avenues where development is needed and finding new ways to improve vision.”
