First implantations of the Rayner M-flex® Multifocal lens with added toric correction

Rayner is pleased to announce that on 28th June 2006, the first implantation of the Rayner M-flex® Multifocal IOL with added toric correction was carried out.
Surgery was performed by Professor Gerd Auffarth (Heidelberg, Germany) with lenses which were custom-made to prescription.
On a historical note, the first IOLs with Toric optics were manufactured by Rayner for the English surgeon Peter Choyce in the 1950s. These lenses were then made of rigid PMMA and were introduced through large incisions. One advantage of this new Rayner IOL is that it is made from a hydrophilic acrylic material (Rayacryl®)and can be injected through an astigmatically-neutral incision of less than 3mm.
Additionally, the lens has the benefit of AVH Technology® for stability in the capsular bag with superb centration, no anterior / posterior vaulting and most importantly, a dependable absence of rotation – so important in any lens design having a toric correction.

With the Amon-Apple Enhanced Square Edge, coupled with the high biocompatibility of Rayacryl®, PCO rates are minimal.
