First UK implantation of a Multifocal Toric IOL
Posted on 09/01/2008
The first UK implantation of a Multifocal Toric IOL (Rayner M-flex®T) took place on Wednesday 9th January 2008 at the Wellington Hospital, London. Surgery was successfully performed by London ophthalmologist, Mr. Simon Levy.
The development of the Rayner M-flex®T Multifocal Toric IOL is another world first for the company and marks a significant leap forward in refractive and cataract surgery.
Combining the unique properties of the Rayner T-flex® Toric and M-flex® Multifocal IOLs, this exciting new development has, for the first time, offered those patients with severe astigmatism the benefits of having a multifocal IOL.
Prior to the advent of the Rayner M-flex®T Multifocal Toric IOL, multifocal IOLs were often associated with sub-optimal results in those patients having significant corneal astigmatism.
The successful combination of Rayner’s unique refractive aspheric multifocal optic technology with the proven benefits of T-flex® Toric IOLs, means that not only are Rayner M-flex®T Multifocal Toric IOLs suitable for conventional cataract surgery patients, but also for patients undergoing PRELEX (Presbyopic Lens Exchange) surgery.
Following post-operative evaluation of the patient, Mr. Levy commented on the excellent results from his first bilateral implantation of the Rayner M-flex®T Multifocal Toric IOL.
Rayner’s unparalleled manufacturing expertise, coupled with the exceptional performance of Rayner’s IOL design platform (includingAVH Technology® and the Amon-Apple Enhanced Square Edge), ensures accurate, predictable and sustainable refractive outcomes with the minimum of post-operative complications such as PCO.
