Commitment to Education Continues with The XVI Rayner Forum

For over a decade, the annual Rayner Forum has been a calendar highlight for surgeons in Austria and Germany. However to coincide with the opening of Rayner’s brand new, state of the art headquarters and production facility ‘The Ridley Innovation Centre’ in Worthing, West Sussex, we decided to hold the 2016 Forum in the UK for the first time and open up this educational opportunity to UK surgeons as well.

Hosted by Professor Oliver Findl, from the Hanusch Hospital in Vienna, the pan-European forum centred around a theme of “Innovations and Controversies in Ophthalmology”.

The CPD point-accredited event boasted a full scientific program not only about IOLs, but also the latest innovations and controversies in retina, glaucoma and cornea areas of specialty which made for lively debate and knowledge-sharing around both conventional challenges and novel techniques & products.

Forum Delegates Learn How to Make an IOL: The Ridley Innovation Centre Tour

Prior to the Forum, the majority of delegates attended an afternoon at The Ridley Innovation Centre IOL production facility -- capable of manufacturing 3 million intraocular lenses each year – adding to the excitement and high spirits.

Surgeons took part in the following activities:

Interactive manufacturing plant tour
Hands-on experience with the next generation of Rayner products during a wetlab session led by Rayner R&D Director Nat Davies
A Presentation on ‘How to Produce a High Quality IOL’, presented by Chris Davison, Director of Operations.

The feedback on both The Rayner Forum and The Ridley Innovation Centre visit has been overwhelmingly positive, with surgeons describing the events as “highly informative and valuable”.
